Gabby's Birth

I transferred this blog from my old website. I absolutely cannot believe that it has been 2 years. Miss Gabby, what a blessing you have been to our family. Your adorable smiles, contagious laugh and bubbly personality. It is a privilege to watch you grow. I love you sweet girl!

I am fortunate enough to have someone in my life who is my kindred spirit. She challenges me, encourages me, brings out the best (and sometimes the worst) in me, but mostly she reminds me that I am unconditionally, irrevocably loved. She is without a doubt, my sister. When I spoke with my sister about photographing her last birth she was skeptical. Unlike me she doesn't like the birth process and was positive that she would not want the experience on film. I showed her other birth galleries and explained what exactly I would photograph and to my surprise by the time she was ready for her little one to arrive I got the phone call that she needed me there. I drove to Bluffton Hospital, near Findlay Ohio extremely anxious that I would miss her arrival. My sister's last baby arrived after less than six hours of labor! I was asked to sit in the waiting room for a while during her getting an epidural. Over an hour passed and I started getting extremely anxious that something was wrong. I must have driven the nurses crazy by asking what was holding things up, but at some point I no longer cared about taking photos for my sister and became truly scared that something was wrong. Finally the nurse behind the desk made eye contact with me, I am not even sure that she actually spoke any words, I was running down the hall to my sister's room to make sure she was okay. Her beautiful smile greeted me as soon as I walked through the door.

As the evening progressed her labor seemed to become more intense. I was surprised that she seemed to be in so much discomfort with her epidural. The nurse commented on her heart rate and after a short amount of time it became apparent that something was wrong with her epidural. I am so glad that I caught photos right before and after they fixed her pain level.

It is like watching a marathon runner at the end of the race when they are finally able to rest. Seeing that smile come back to her face made me feel so much better. I think there is nothing harder than watching someone you love so much endure something so painful. As soon as her epidural was placed she fell asleep and like I promised her I didn't take any photos of her sleeping ;) Instead, I took that time to spend a few moments with my amazing brother in law. I was able to take a few photos of some Bible verses he was studying for an upcoming sermon for our church.

I am not sure how or why it felt like hours waiting to be with my sister, but as she slept it felt like literal minutes before she started pushing. Our little Gabby would soon be here! I was thrilled to see my favorite doctor from Findlay Ohio at Bluffton Ohio's Blanchard Valley Hospital's location. Dr. Schutz delivered my 2nd baby and seeing him walk through the door during Gabby's birth made the entire room feel at peace.

I wish I had more words. I wish I could describe what it feels like to see someone you love so dearly go through so much and to watch them forget it all once they see their beautiful baby. How incredible. Little Gabby has already brought so much joy to our lives. Every time I see her I am reminded of just how blessed our family is to have her. Little Gabby, so young and already such a miracle. I am a blessed auntie <3
